Lauri Markkanen Basketball School
Lauri Markkanen Basketball School is a completely free of charge hobby organized by JBA, HoNsU, Huima, MU Basket, LU and SäyRi. The school is protected by Susijengi and NBA star Lauri Markkanen. More than 500 girls and boys participate in our basketball schools every season, come and experience the fun & joy of basketball!
Basketball Schools for the 2024-2025 season are intended for girls and boys born in 2017-2019. In Jyväskylä there are groups also just for girls and and a group for special needs children!
The basketball school includes one training session a week from September to May, fun tournaments and a free ball and insurance to each player!
Note! You can also join basketball schools in the middle of the season, feel free to come and try basketball!
What & where?
The free of charge basketball schools are made possible by JBA, junior clubs in the region and sponsors.
During its seven years of operation, Koriskoulu has moved more than 3,500 children and was awarded the Sports Act of the Year at the Jyväskylä Sports Gala.
The goal of our free of charge basketball school is to offer as many children as possible the opportunity for a fun sports hobby, regardless of the family’s background or wealth. The basketball school includes a free ball and insurance. You can participate in the basketball school with normal indoor gym clothes and indoor shoes or bare footed.
The groups are divided as follows:
Kids born 2019: aim is to learn skills of working in a group through play and games.
Kids born 2017-2018: stronger focus on learning the game of basketball. These district teams play games regularly plays against each other. At the Lauri Markkanen Basketball school, we learn life skills while playing basketball!
Note! In Jyväskylä there are also groups for girls only and a group for special needs children at the Valteri-Onerva school.
Note note! If your child is too old for basket school, each club offers free trial periods for older children as well. Ask the club in your area for more information!
Parents are welcome as assistant coaches!
Parents are needed as assistant instructors so that enough small groups can be formed during the exercises. The role does not require previous knowledge of basketball, but rather an enthusiasm to help the children focus on the training. You can help casually. Training will be organized for instructors, so feel free to join us for an extremely important task!
